Seems like a contradiction, right? Hear me out: This movie represents how bankable King was to the American people and how hopelessly desperate Hollywood was to take advantage of that bankability. Silver Bullet, to me, represents a high-water mark and low-culture mark in the Stephen King phenomenon. An utterly incomplete story replete with flawed, lazy writing, but a fun read all the same.Īnd then there's Silver Bullet. And you have Stephen King's blueprint: Even though there's not much there, you can read this book and easily fill in the blanks about how this story would have looked full-length, fantasizing about what the characters said and did in-between full moons. Those illustrations add so much to the vignettes. You know how a picture is worth a thousand words? It's true. This is the book that got me hooked on werewolf fiction despite its flaws. A terrible idea.īut an intriguing book, nonetheless. The impossibility of this idea cannot be more evident upon reading the book: There is no way they could have fit the vignettes, illustrations, and calendar grids in one package.
